Subverting Diet Culture and Connecting Through Food
Please join us for a collective learning experience on the essential role food plays in our lives, and examine a healthy relationship with food—a medium through which to connect, enjoy, and share stories.
As a group we will break up into smaller groups of 3-4 to do the prep work for an amazing meal and paired beverage (after we sample just a bit before we go!). Together we will make fresh fettuccine pasta and kale pistachio pesto, which can be brought home to cook immediately or frozen, as well as a strawberry rhubarb basil spritz. Each participant will go home with ½ a pound of pasta and pesto—and we’ll share small bites of the meal during class.
Rachel will demonstrate the full cooking technique and talk about other uses for the pesto after our prep work so we all can understand the complete process. Participants will leave with the ingredients for a full meal to take home and enjoy! Following the class, we’ll provide a video of Rachel’s cooking demonstration so it’s easy to remember how to prepare the meal ourselves.
Instructor

Rachel Popik
HI, I’m Rachel! I’m an anti-diet chef and cooking instructor. I’m happiest when I’m in the kitchen, using cooking as a creative outlet, a way to care for my community, and heal my relationship with my body.
Ultimately, I want to help build a world where food doesn’t exist as a means to punish ourselves but as a way to connect, enjoy, and share stories.
I offer one-on-one support via kitchen audits and education, custom recipe development, cooking classes, private event catering, and curated meals for everyday life as well as those designed to be easily prepared and eaten after illness, miscarriage, and other losses.
